Orchard Park Academy's Mission and Vision

Mission Statement
Orchard Park Academy, serving grades K-8, is dedicated to improving the lives of its students by providing authentic learning experiences in a collaborative, nurturing environment that will build a foundation for students’ success in school, at future work, and in life.  To achieve the mission, our School will integrate current learning technologies into each classroom.  We will offer authentic learning experiences that are representative of how children learn best, as well as offer a schedule and support activities that enable each student to reach to his or her potential.  We want our students to leave with the skills and abilities necessary to achieve academic excellence, personal growth, and success as lifelong learners.  This mission requires the support of the faculty, staff, families, and community in order to encourage and empower students to be responsible and valued citizens.

Vision Statement
The School’s vision is to improve the lives of its students and stakeholders through education.

Winter Weather Closing and Delays

The decision to open or close Orchard Park Academy, offer a two-hour delayed start, or resort to an early release in bad weather impacts each of our families and affects you enormously. The following information may help you to better understand the process used when making these types of decisions, which are decided in large part to Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Orchard Park Academy.

The following is based upon a careful analysis of all relevant factors, such as:

  • Information on road conditions from transportation staff, local law enforcement and road crews (as warranted); we must give careful consideration to the most dangerous roads; they can be treacherous, even if your road or street looks clear.
  • Amount of accumulated snow and ice
  • Whether precipitation is expected to continue throughout the day
  • Temperature and wind chill (wind chills at or below -15°F to -20° during key walking and waiting-for-bus times are given special consideration)
  • Impact on the transportation fleet (school bus diesel fuel begins to gel at an ambient temperature of 0 degrees)
  • Weather predictions
  • Timing of storm
  • Building conditions (is there electricity and heat?)
  • Parking lot conditions
  • What other surrounding districts are doing as we use their bus fleet for our students.

TWO-HOUR DELAY: Orchard Park Academy's school-sponsored LatchKey programs are canceled if the school is canceled. If the school is on a two-hour delay, there will be no LatchKey in the morning. For the two-hour delay option, the school day starts two hours later than normal but ends at the regular time. Bus pick up times are adjusted accordingly. (Example: If your child is normally picked up at 7:15 a.m., the bus will arrive at 9:15 a.m. on a two-hour delay.)

NOTIFICATION: In addition to our All Call System, the school website, Facebook and our Constant Contact emails, closing notifications are announced on TV, radio and posted on many storm alert and school closing websites.
